What happens each week during the rental?

Your Hatching at Home KY Guide will walk you through what to do each day and provides supplemental educational activities and resources. Here are the weekly highlights:

  • WEEK 1: Candle eggs, start incubating

  • WEEK 2: Candle eggs again to see developing chicks

  • WEEK 3: Watch your chicks hatch!

  • WEEK 4: Care for your chicks and watch them eat, drink, sleep & play

How do I obtain my hatching kit?

Hatching kits are available for pickup from one of our locations in the central Bluegrass area: Morehead to Lexington. Let us know where you are and we can choose a location closest to you.

During the order process, you will be asked to select the start date for your experience and provide your location. We will confirm a pick-up location and all other details at that time.

What do I need to do if I plan to keep my chicks?

If you want to keep your chicks, you will need to be prepared to care for them after you return your hatching rental kit. You can either rent a brooder kit from us or get the following items:

  • a big box (a cardboard watermelon box from the grocery store or a plastic bin with high sides)

  • a warming plate or heating lamp to keep your chicks warm. Quail need heat until they are at least two weeks old.

  • a chick feeder and waterer

  • game bird chick starter for your quail

See our Recommended Products page for links to the products we suggest.

How do I return my rental kit?

You will have a set date and location for your kit return. Within each kit is a zippered bag for the return items as well as a return checklist to help you remember all the items that must be returned so you do not incur any additional fees.
